The Lumia 1020 Innovates To Compete

Nokia has earned some much deserved attention recently, thanks to the release of the Lumia 1020 Windows Phone, which is now in direct competition with mobile phone heavyweights like the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4. Of course, at least for the time being, Apple and Samsung remain the two leaders in the mobile phone industry, and it doesn’t seem likely that anyone will take them down any time soon. The real question is whether or not Windows Phones can generate enough buzz to make it a trio atop the industry.

In terms of general features, the Nokia Lumia 1020 has certainly gained ground on its competitors. Many rank the display and design of the Lumia 1020 right alongside the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5. Each device is compatible with 4G LTE Internet connectivity, and the general functionality and keyboard design of the Lumia 1020 are on par with its competitors. The Lumia 1020 is even making strides with more “niche” concerns, such as app availability. For example, innovative apps like the Betfair gambling app, an extension of , popular games like Angry Birds, and a massive variety of additional apps are now available for Windows Phone devices.

However, as impressive as the Lumia 1020′s strides are in these areas of concern, most of this progress still represents an effort to catch up. Where the Lumia 1020 really makes its own mark is with its incredibly powerful and sophisticated camera, which really defines the phone. Here are a few specific features.

  • The Lumia 1020′s camera has an automatic image stabilization feature. This keeps your photos still and clear, even if you aren’t so steady taking them!
  • The camera also includes a feature called “pixel oversampling.” This means taking 7 pixels of image data from a picture you take, and consolidating them into a single pixel. This makes for easier data storage, and a crisper, incredibly clear image.
  • Perhaps most notably, the Lumia 1020 has 41 megapixel capability. The iPhone 5, by comparison, has just 8 MP, which makes it clear to see that the Lumia 1020 has, by far, the most impressive camera of any smart phone.
  • Finally, the Lumia 1020 also contains the sharpest video capability on the market, with 1080p HD. The phone can capture video at 30 frames per second, which is truly exceptional quality for a phone.

Of course, a closer look at these features and a few examples of image quality can easily be found at http://www.nokia.com. Generally speaking, however, the goal of the Lumia 1020 is quite clear. The amount of focus that has evidently been directed upon building up a single feature seems to indicate that Nokia and Windows Phone are aiming to compete with mobile phone giants by way of offering something new. And they just may be on their way to doing so.
